laser vein treatments for varicose and spider veins
Laser therapy is primarily used to treat unsightly broken and dilated vessels such as small varicose and spider veins. Also used on the face, laser therapy has become the treatment of choice for facial lesions such as rosacea and spider veins and can be used on a wide range of vein related problems, such as varicose veins of the leg.
Laser treatments work by producing a high-intensity ray of light that targets the unwanted vessel (varicose vein), leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. The laser energy causes the intended varicose or spider vein to break up and gradually disappear.
A safe, fast, and proven method of varicose vein removal treatment, laser vein therapy has a high success rate. Results emerge gradually over a series of treatments. The most common side effect is bruising, or purpura, around the treated area, which usually resolves within days following the treatment. There is a small risk of permanent changes to skin color.
People with light sensitivity, or who have a cold sore or other skin infection near the treatment area cannot be treated. This treatment is not suitable for dark complexions or sun-tanned skin. You should not have laser treatment if you have been treated for acne with Isotretinoin in the previous year.
endovenous laser treatment (evlt)
Relativly new, endovenous laser treatment for varicose and spider veins received FDA approval in January 2002. A miniminally invasive treatment for damaged veins, EVLT is performed under local or regional anesthesia in an office-based procedure.
During the procedure, a tiny puncture is made and a small catheter is inserted into the defective varioce or spider vein. The catheter then delivers laser energy to the vein wall, causing the vein to shrink and seal shut. Once closed, pressure within the varicose vein decreases and normal circulation is gradually restored, vastly improving problematic symptoms and vein appearance.
