Sclerotherapy Basics

A well-proven procedure for the treatment of varicose veins and “spider veins,” sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive medical procedure. During the sclerotherapy procedure, a saline solution is injected into the affected vein using very fine needles. This solution causes the vein to collapse and ultimately disappear . The number of veins injected in one session is variable, depending on the size and location of the veins, and the patient’s overall medical condition.

In general, spider veins respond to treatment in 3 to 6 weeks, and larger veins respond in 3 to 4 months. However, new veins may appear over time and may require repeat visitations.
